JOE FELIX has quickly become a York City fan favourite after another standout performance yesterday afternoon, and the defender is loving life with the Minstermen.
A superb performance from York saw Adam Hinshelwood’s side cruise to a 3-0 victory over AFC Fylde to place themselves in the driving seat in the Vanarama National League, sitting at the top of the fifth tier after Gateshead were trumped 7-1 in the late kick-off by Dagenham & Redbridge.
A red card to Harry Davis put Fylde down to ten men, with second-half strikes from Marvin Armstrong, Lenell John-Lewis and Callum Harriott securing three points for City.
Another clean sheet now means that York have kept five in their last eight matches, with Felix at the focal point of that.
The defender spoke on his immediate impact in North Yorkshire and admitted that he was grateful for the opportunity to represent the football club.
“It’s going really well, but we just need to focus on the next game and keep working hard in training, as we’ve been doing," Felix enthused.
“But yes, it is going really well.
“I thought that it was a really good performance and a really good second-half.
“Even in the first-half, we could have been a bit better but it was a good performance. The fans were unreal.
“I just leave it all out there and I’m just grateful that the fans see all of my hard work.
“At the same time, I’ve got to give credit to my team as well, because I think that they have all been unreal.
“Ry [Ryan Fallowfield], Cal [Howe], even H [Harrison Male], everyone in the whole team has been unreal and I’m just grateful to have a good team behind me. Long may it continue!
“I love the game, all my life I have been playing football.
“I’m just grateful that I have got the opportunity to be playing in front of my family.
“I’ve had to make my way up, and to play in front of these amazing fans and all of the people that have come today, I am just grateful.
“I am blessed, everyday I’ve got to keep working hard to put on a show for them.
“I can’t explain it, it just feels good.
“At Worthing it felt good, here it feels good, I just want to focus on my time here and keep pushing.
“To just focus on each game and not looking too far ahead.”
Despite operating at either right-back or left-back in his career, Felix has built a reputation for his goal contributions, managing an impressive 15 assists in the Vanarama National League South with Worthing last campaign.
The 24-year-old remains confident that he will start adding to his tally for City soon, and added on his preferred position, after being shifted to left-back recently to accommodate Fallowfield’s return to right-back.
Felix continued: “I always think about stuff like that, but at the same time it is still early on and I know that I will kick on.
“I’ll try get as much as I can, but for now, as long as I am doing all that I can on the pitch and am working hard for the team to get three points, that’s the important thig.
“I just want to be everywhere on the pitch, I don’t really mind where I play.
“I’m just grateful that I get the opportunity to go out onto the pitch, so wherever the gaffer plays me, I will give my all.
“Wherever really, I’m not fussed where I play, I’m just grateful that I get the chance to be on the pitch.”
