UNDER-13’s boys and under-14’s girls of York Eagles’ basketball teams went above and beyond to raise funds for the trip of a life time, with Los Angeles on the agenda.
Both sides spent the week playing basketball games in America, with a group of 20 children, six girls and 14 boys, took on the challenge to raise £1000 each for the trip to become a reality.
On top of that, they managed to raise an additional £1500 for York’s Snappy Trust, presenting a cheque before being thanked for an incredible team effort.
They had six months to complete this, with all of the children doing brilliantly to make their dream come true by the hitting their target, which included the use of cake stalls, garage sales, competitions, litter picking and sponsorship.
Along with the help of three coaches and parents alike, helpers have now aided to make this trip become a reality.
The money raised enables the children to attend day camps in Santa Monica and have lessons with the famous Sierra Canyon school, where the children of basketball legend Lebron James attended.
The children received the highest standard of lessons from American basketball coaches, with York Eagles saying that the children benefitted greatly, all thriving throughout the trip.
York Eagles told the Press: “It goes without saying the whole team are amazing for their age and are pretty much unbeatable and resilient.
“The lessons they have had have enabled them to gain a much better bond and are all close friends now.
“York Eagles basket ball club is forever growing and is open to players coming to try the game at York college if you think your child is interested in the sport please, get in touch via FaceBook or on our website.”
