ADAM HINSHELWOOD intends for his York City side to understand what it means to represent the football club.

The York manager is entering his first full season at the helm of the City job, having now recruited a cluster of his own players, integrating his own style of play and building a relationship with the supporters through community events.

Hinshelwood hopes that his players can understand the pressure and responsibility that falls upon their shoulders as representatives of the York squad, taking the Minstermen on a tour of the City and around the City walls so that they can understand what they are representing when they pull on the red shirt.

Hinshelwood explained: “We were keen to take the team around the city yesterday [last Wednesday], just to get a feel for it.

“We told them that this is the city that they’re going to be representing this season, and I definitely got a feel for a squad of players that will give their all for the shirt.

“That’s something that I’m really positive to have, we won’t always get it right, but I’m sure that we will always get 100 per cent commitment.

“We’re pretty much there, one thing we have got this season is a fantastic squad to choose from.

“You’re looking at what the bench could potentially be, and there are definitely going to be some game-changers on the bench this season.

“Whether we win or lose, one thing I’ll know is that we’ve got a group that is together and will give their all. Not just for myself, but for the supporters and everybody.”

Hinshelwood has been impressed by the spirit of the group, who fought back from a goal down to earn a battling point in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Southend United.

The boss has been happy with how his new signings have adapted to life in North Yorkshire, as well as how he feel they will manage when playing in front of the City supporters.

“The thing that I have been most pleased about is the way the team has come together.

“The togetherness in bringing in so many new players, you’re always a bit sceptical about how they gel together, but they have certainly gelled together.

“I think they’ve all really relished being a part of the club and being full-time footballers.

“They’ve all really taken to it and are loving every minute of it, I’m sure that they will love playing in front of that kind of crowd, if that doesn’t give you a lift, then nothing is going to.

“When you bring them here and you show them the size of the stadium, the first thing that they want to do is just go out onto the pitch and have a look around.

“They’re in awe of the place, they’re definitely characters that will not shy away from it, they are relishing it.”
