MAX MCMILLAN has left York City after his trial period.
Adam Hinshelwood has confirmed that the trialist winger, and son of former York legend Andy, would not be joining City due to budgeting reasons after featuring throughout pre-season.
McMillan operated on the wing for the Minstermen and played in five pre-season friendlies for City, before suffering a hamstring injury in the 3-3 draw with Darlington.
Hinshelwood did wish McMillan the best for his future endeavours, and feels that former Leeds United youngster would have added some quality to his group, but believes that the 21-year-old needs regular game time at this stage of his career.
“He came on trial and we were hopeful that we would be able to get something agreed with him, but it hasn’t transpired that way,” Hinshelwood confirmed.
“We’ve got a budget to work to, believe it or not, and we’ve got to stick to that.
“We can’t just sign players unfortunately, we were hoping that one or two might move on and free up some funds which hasn’t happened.
“We have to do what’s right for the club and what’s right for the player, he’s been in training and he’s loved it and we’ve loved having in him.
“There comes a time where he’s got to look after himself, and getting that hamstring injury when he did probably didn’t help Max.
“What a great kid, I really hope he finds a club soon and gets playing football, because ultimately that’s what he’s got to do next.
“He’s got to go and play some games and prove himself.
“He’s definitely one that as a York lad we will monitor closely, but we wish him nothing but the best and hope he succeeds wherever he goes. “
Hinshelwood also confirmed that the club had welcomed 17-year-old winger Mo Fadera on trial with the first-team, after the City boss was impressed by the youngster in the pre-season friendly against Garforth Town.
Fadera scored a sublime solo goal against the Minstermen in that friendly, and will feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly next week for York.
“He’s impressed us in that game with his raw pace and is again a York lad.
“Mo has been training with us for a couple of days, we’re hoping to have a look at him in this in-house friendly that we’ve got arranged for next week to rule some eyes over.
“We’ve got to look at the budget as well, we’ve done our business early and we’re pleased with the recruitment that we’ve been able to do this Summer.
“If there are young lads that are on our doorstep, we’d be stupid not to look at them.”
