MITCH HANCOX is a free agent after fellow Vanarama National League side Altrincham opted to not extend the contract of the former York City midfielder.

Hancox exited York in mid-March after struggling for game time throughout the 2023/24 season, with Altrincham moving quickly to snap up the 30-year-old.

After playing a part in Altrincham’s play-off finish, the Robins suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Bromley, who would eventually go on to win promotion to the EFL for the first time in their history.

With the season now finished for Altrincham, the club have confirmed that they have parted ways with Hancox.

Hancox made a combined 71 league appearances over three seasons with the Minstermen, only three of which came this campaign, and was part of the City side that gained promotion from the Vanarama National League North in the 2021/22 season.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 victory over Boston United at the LNER Community Stadium, with goals coming from Lenell John-Lewis and Maz Kouhyar.

Hancox began his career with Birmingham City in 2011, before going on to have spells with Macclesfield Town, Crawley Town and Solihull Moors.

His loan switch from Hereford to York was made permanent in 2022, before having a short stint with Hartlepool United during the New Year period.

Altrincham said on their club website: “Dan Mooney, Dior Angus, Joey Jones, Mitch Hancox, Liam Brockbank and George Burroughs have been released, and we thank them for their services, while the club wish all the very best to young trio Louis Williams, Ewan McGeady and Tom Jones, who are also not being retained.”
