RORY WATSON has extended his York City stay until the Summer of 2026.

Goalkeeper Watson will be remaining a York player after penning a new two-year deal with the club, with City holding an option to extend his contract by a further year.

Watson joined the Minstermen last Summer following the expiry of his contract with Sky Bet League Two side Doncaster Rovers, joining his boyhood club after growing up in the City of York.

The 28-year-old made his debut in October's Emirates FA Cup clash with Needham Market, before going on to make a further eight appearances with City.

Watson played a key role in York's survival under Adam Hinshelwood, keeping back-to-back clean sheets in crucial victories over Aldershot Town and Bromley, with it being revealed that the goalkeeper had been offered a new contract as part of the club's retained list last week.

Watson also boasts an impressive CV having previously featured for Hull City, Scunthorpe United and Wrexham, providing cover in the Red Dragons' promotion from the Vanarama National League last season.

The City shot-stopper will now remain at York for a further two seasons, with the option of a third, challenging for the number one shirt alongside George Sykes-Kenworthy and Maison Campbell.
