In Division 1 of the York and District TTA Winter League, the top two teams both recorded 8-2 wins as York RI A defeated Coneysthorpe and Topspin A beat relegation-threatened Wigginton A.

Shahriar Masoudi won his three singles for York RI A, as did James Atkins for Topspin A in a hard-fought match that saw six of the ten sets going to a deciding game.

This means that York RI A remain seven points ahead with three matches remaining.

Bottom team University A are already relegated and second-bottom Wigginton A’s two points move them to within four points of Clarence B, who were beaten 10-0 by Shiyi Ling A, in their bid to avoid the relegation play-off.

York RI C remain top of Division 2 and are favourites for the title after beating second-placed Clarence C 7-3, thanks to a maximum from Alberto Nidasio.

Only the winners of this division are guaranteed promotion, with the runners-up taking on second-bottom of Division 1 in a play-off.

Shiyi Ling C could not capitalise on Clarence C’s loss in their bid for the play-off as they were also beaten 7-3 by York RI F for whom Tim Smith won his three singles.

A maximum from Dylan Pottage helped Wigginton B beat Shepherds A 8-2. University B are already relegated.

The two teams above them, Wigginton C and York RI E, played each other in a battle to avoid the other relegation place. It ended 5-5- with Mike Robinson’s winning his three singles for York RI E.

It’s all to play for at the top of Division 3 with five teams in contention for the two promotion places.

BT A and University C are currently first and second but they have just one match to play.

BT A defeated Wigginton D 8-2, with Jason Chinnian winng his three singles, but then lost to Ryedale B, for whom Pat Swindell won three.

University C lost to Clarence E 4-6 before beating York RI G 10-0 and Ryedale B 7-3 in a bid to complete their fixtures before the end of term.

Clarence E, Ryedale B and Clarence D occupy the next three places but have played fewer matches than the top two so could overtake them. At the bottom Topspin D and York RI G are already relegated.

Clive Pottage won his six singles matches to help Wigginton F to maintain their lead at the top of Division 4.

They defeated BT B 8-2 and Clarence F 7-3. Wigginton G remain second despite a 4-6 defeat to third-placed Wilberfoss, for whom David Smillie won three.

However, they bounced back to beat Lidgett Dynamo 8-2 with maximums from Hayden Priest and Julian Priest.
