YORK Valkyrie will begin their Betfred Women's Super League title defence against reigning Betfred Women's Challenge Cup holders St Helens at the LNER Community Stadium on April 21.

The fixture will form the first double-header of the season, with York Knights taking on Bradford Bulls in the Betfred Championship at 3pm later that afternoon.

Lindsay Anfield's side triumphed in both of their Women's Super League meetings with St Helens last term - backing up a 26-6 triumph in North Yorkshire with a 18-8 win at the Totally Wicked Stadium in August.

But Saints were one of just two teams to beat the Valkyrie in their otherwise undefeated 2023 campaign, with Faye Gaskin's drop-goal sealing a 17-16 victory at the death in the sides' Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Semi Final.

York will face St Helens in the reverse fixture on June 15, with a kick-off time and venue still yet to be confirmed.

The Valkyrie's opening away fixture sees them travel to newly-promoted Barrow Raiders on April 27, before they return to the LNER Community Stadium on May 12 against Leeds Rhinos, in a repeat of October's Grand Final.

Headingley will play host to the away fixture on September 1, beginning a run that will see York close out the season with trips to Wigan Warriors (September 8) and newcomers Featherstone Rovers (September 15).
