TWO late goals spoiled Tadcaster Albion’s afternoon after falling to a 4-2 defeat to Rossington Main.

After falling behind to two goals, a collected effort from Tadcaster saw Mick O’Connell’s side draw level before the half-time whistle.

However, two late goals saw Rossington Main claim all three points at the Welfare Ground.

Albion were still without the suspended Sam Kay, Conor Qualter and Joe Crosby but there was a start in defence for Cody Collins.

The Brewers were immediately on the back foot with Joe Wilton twice in action in the first two minutes, jumping high to strongly punch out a dangerous cross followed almost immediately by a save with his feet off the line.

Danger man Ross Hannah was caught offside in a goal scoring position, but was then instrumental in breaking the dead lock in the eighth minute, heading down a corner in the six-yard box for Manasse Kianga to tap in.

Wilton’s diving save denied Kianga an early brace whilst at the other end Fatlum Ibrahimi went wide as Albion looked to level and Dan McDaid cleared the cross bar after a decent pass from Junayd Cassius – Gill.

Tad’s best chance came on 16 minutes when a short corner surprised the hosts, Cassius-Gill finding Jordan Hines whose shot was saved on the line by Pollard.

Both Ibrahimi and Hines went wide before Rossington doubled their lead on the half hour; Charlie Owen was dispossessed by Hannah near the touch line and from thirty-five yards out and at an angle, he lobbed the ball over Wilton into the back of the far corner.

But the visiting Tadcaster were quick to respond and finished the half level courtesy of a brace from Dan Thirkell; the first came on 35 minutes following a free-kick from Sam Kitchen which found the tad defender loitering with intent near the six-yard box, perfectly placed to head home Pollard’s parried save, whilst a minute before the interval a long curling corner needed just a little help to land in the top corner, again a header.

Heading into the second half, a typical charge down the right flank ended with Olly Norman’s cross skimming the bar, whilst on the hour Hines had a chance after a good link up between Cody Collins and Kieran Greenway but Pollard was well positioned.

Not to be outdone, Wilton denied Hannah with a spectacular high dive as the ball whistled towards the corner of the Tadcaster net.

Joe Dixon replaced Hines on 64 minutes just before Albion has two good opportunities to take the lead; Norman’s dangerous cross went for a corner whilst, Kitchen’s ensuing effort was cleared.

he Rossington keeper then foiled Cassius-Gill’s effort just a whisker away from the line.

It was time for more substitutions; Luke Stewart on for Cassius-Gill and for the hosts the introduction of Adam Baskerville and then Tyla Bell making a return from injury – both were to play a leading role as the match neared its conclusion.

On 83 minutes Rossington re-took the lead. A corner cleared the Albion defence, leaving Bell unmarked in the six-yard box for the simplest of headers.

Two minutes later the hosts wrapped the game up on a breakaway as Baskerville found himself clear on the left of the box squeezing the ball into the far corner under pressure and at a tight angle.

Greenway had a token effort right at the end, well saved by the keeper but there was no way back.

Next Tuesday, weather pitch permitting Taddy are at home in the NCEL Cup against Silsden, whilst on Saturday it's back to league business as Thackley visit the So-Trak Stadium.
