SELBY Town were held to a 2-2 draw with Retford FC after goals from Roy Fogarty and Harry Clapham.

Following a hard fought victory in the NCEL Division One that saw the lads overcome Clay Cross Town, they returned to the SL2 Rail Stadium for a midweek league tie against Retford FC.

Despite goals from Roy Fogarty and Harry Clapham, Town were unable to hold their lead on the night.

Head Coach Ryan Cooper named two changes to starting eleven from the weekend tie against Clay Cross.

Dan Davison and Jamie Danby replaced the absent Fish duo whilst Ben Hall joined Troy Greening on the bench awaiting their debuts for the club.

Early endeavours saw Selby come closest after Davison’s deflected strike dropped out of play following a miscommunication from the host’s.

Still in stalemate, the tie soon in to that of a scrappy affair.

Lacking goals, Town perhaps felt they could have been ahead ten minutes from the break after Caden McGrath broke into space out right finding Tom Palmer in the centre whose strike forced a save from Owen Evens.

It was a new half, but a different tale ensued. Clapham came closest to opening the scoring just six minutes in after latching on to a McGrath through ball, less could said of his strike that proved unable to beat Evans.

An opening goal would eventually present itself on the hour after Fogarty pounced on a defensive error to claim the lead for the robins.

That lead wouldn’t last long however as the hosts found enough space amongst the Robins defence to level a mere two minutes later.

Town remained on the front foot searching for what they’d hoped would be a winner, and perhaps should have done just that fifteen minutes from time; Harry Clapham once again through one on one with Evans, only to see his strike curl the wrong side of the post.

Harry would make amends in the 80th minutes after a lovely ball over the top from Iwan Heeley found Dec Racher, whom squared it for an easy tap in for the front man.

Such is life in Selby, nothing is ever simple as Town failed to keep their lead intact, conceding an equaliser five minutes from time.
