Ticket sales for Sunday's Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final between York Valkyrie and Leeds Rhinos have now surpassed the figure from last year's event.

As The Press reported yesterday, the Valkyrie have sold out their entire East Stand allocation and have now begun selling South Stand tickets in order to meet demand.

That news came after their initial 500-ticket allocation sold out inside 24 hours.

Leeds have also sold out their original Grand Final allocation, whilst Barrow Raiders and Leigh Leopards, who will face off in the Promotion Play-off Final at 12pm earlier that day, are also expected to bring 'significant support'.

More tickets have this morning been released for the hotly-anticipated fixture, with the possibility of a new attendance record being set at the LNER Community Stadium.

The RFL believe that there is a strong chance of also eclipsing the record of 4,235 set at Headingley in 2021, when St Helens won the title for the first time.

Sunday's fixture is a repeat of last year's Grand Final, in which the Valkyrie were beaten 12-4 by Leeds at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

However, the Rhinos are the only team to take points off York this season, the sides having drawn 12-12 at the LNER Community Stadium in July.

Thomas Brindle, the General Manager of the BWSL, said that it was clear that the fixture had "captured the imagination of both sets of fans."

“It’s already been an historic season for Women’s Rugby League with the Challenge Cup Final being played at Wembley for the first time, and it’s going to finish with a bang in York this weekend.

“The repeat of the 2022 Grand Final has captured the imagination of both sets of fans, as York Valkyrie aim for revenge and their first BWSL title after losing to Leeds Rhinos in St Helens last year.

“The Promotion Play-Off Final between Barrow Raiders and Leigh Leopards is proving another big attraction, with two clubs who have invested heavily in the women’s game battling for a place in the expanded top tier in 2024.

“The LNER Community Stadium in York has a real history of staging Women’s Rugby League events, after the prominent role in last year’s World Cup including a record crowd for the Semi Finals, and Sunday promises to be another memorable occasion.”

Tickets for the fixture are priced at just £10 for Adults, £7.50 for Concessions and £2.50 for Under 16s.

York's allocation of online ticket sales has now closed, with tickets available to purchase via the RFL. A limited number of tickets will be available from their LNER Community Stadium Club Shop on Sunday.
