York Valkyrie director of rugby Lindsay Anfield and centre Emma Kershaw have both been shortlisted in the Betfred Women's Super League Awards.

Anfield has been nominated for the Coach of the Year, whilst Kershaw is among the three-woman shortlist for the Young Player of the Year.

It's been an outstanding 2023 for the Valkyrie, with an unbeaten league campaign - the only blot on which was a 12-12 draw with fierce rivals Leeds Rhinos - seeing them lift a historic second consecutive League Leaders' Shield in front of their home fans 10 days ago.

They will now face Wigan Warriors in their Play-off Semi Final at the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3:30pm), knowing that another home tie awaits should they progress to the trophy-crowning match against either Leeds or St Helens on October 8.

Young centre Kershaw has enjoyed a fine season, scoring 11 tries in her 15 appearances so far this term - including a hat-trick in the Valkyrie's 48-8 rout of Huddersfield Giants in early July.

She also crossed for braces against both Barrow Raiders and Hull KR in the opening rounds of the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup, earning her a call-up to the England Women Knights squad in June.

Matty Smith, who led St Helens to a third consecutive Challenge Cup, and BWSL Group Two-winning Featherstone Rovers coach Marie Colley join Anfield in the Coach of the Year nominations.

Kershaw also faces fierce competition for the Young Player of the Year from Leeds' Caitlin Casey and Huddersfield's Emilia Brown, who is no stranger to York fans having scored before being sent off for a crunching tackle on Georgie Hetherington during the closing stages of the sides' regular season closer earlier this month.

Should Kershaw earn the award, it will be the second time that the Valkyrie have fielded the Young Player of the Year following Hollie-Mae Dodd's success last term.

The Awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 10, with the Betfred Super League, Betfred Championship, and Betfred Wheelchair Super League Grand Finals taking place the following weekend.
