SHEFFIELD Wednesday are set to field a weakened starting line-up in their pre-season friendly against York City this Saturday.

After appointing Xisco Munoz as Darren Moore's successor earlier this week, the former Watford manager will take charge of Sheffield Wednesday for the first time this weekend.

His first outing will be against York, who are preparing for a second season back in the Vanarama National League with a fresh sense of intrigue after the Uggla family completed their takeover of the club last week.

But Xisco confirmed that the club will likely field a weakened side against City on Saturday for the opening match of pre-season, with injuries being a concerning factor for the Owls.

“I need to speak to the doctor and I don’t like to give that information." Xisco told the Sheffield Star.

"Not to the media, but to other teams. If I say players will be out for six weeks, five weeks, other clubs will know that information without giving us anything - but we have injuries.

"It’s a preparation game. We will need U21 and U23 players, and they can only play for 45 minutes after working for five days.

"The maximum time they will play is for 45 and in the second half some of the second team players will play.

"One of the things that is important to start building is a resistance.

“It means we can play 4-3-3, we can play 3-5-2 and 4-4-2. One of the things important for our team is a chameleon situation.

“It’s about capacity, and we will see how we can arrive at the situation. One of the things about this is we are an aggressive team in attack, and we need to press and take responsibility in that last part of the pitch.

"It doesn’t matter if you make a mistake, I know that last part is more difficult but I want them to try and give something positive for our team."
