YORK City owner Matt Uggla has promised supporters ‘marquee’ signings in the coming weeks, with the club entering an exciting time.

Uggla was a guest on the charity podcast Hospital Ball Radio, hosted by Dan Tait, and explained the club entering a new phase, his long-term vision and touched on the breakdown of his Yeovil Town attempted takeover.

The chairman also ensured that supporters should be very excited for the future of the football club, with the Minstermen set to follow similar football models to the likes of Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, which has proved successful in reaching the Premier League.

Uggla recently acquired a 51 per cent majority shareholding in the club after acquiring Glen Henderson’s shares in the club, alongside his mother Julie-Anne.

Donations would also be appreciated to the charity, here.

“I think in the next ten days you’re going to see, from my understanding, some stuff that this club has not seen for years." Uggla told the Hospital Ball Podcast.

“I’m talking marquee signings that in our opinion swing the pendulum.

Uggla also had a brief joke about City’s rumoured deal with Aldershot Town for defender Tyler Cordner, with the club rumoured to have met his lucrative release clause.

“I have no idea, apparently there’s a really good one down at Aldershot!

“It’s been a crazy time, in just over a week there has been so much to do.

“Last night was the first night when I got a full night’s sleep, think I was up for 20 hours and then just had a crash and hit a wall! There’s been so much going on, there’s been moments where I’ve been sat there and I’ve just thought this is brilliant, I’m living the dream and it’s crazy.

“There’s been some really stressful moments and there will be moments when they arise. But I’ve driven around the city and going to the stadium and meeting all of the people at the club, it’s been unbelievable and I already feel very welcome. I’ve loved every moment of it so far."

Uggla went on to explain his footballing background and his affiliation with Arsenal, as well as where his failed takeover of Yeovil Town went wrong last season.

“There’s no football background in my family, but I went to school in the North London area and it was either Arsenal or Tottenham, and it definitely wasn’t going to be Tottenham!

“I think I made the right choice, and from there my dad got really into it and we started going to Highbury back then, then to the Emirates and even to this day we’ve still got a season ticket.

“We went into Yeovil quite naive and not really knowing much about the world of football, and definitely made some mistakes there.

“We didn’t know a lot and were maybe led by the wrong people into certain things and into certain decisions, when it kind of came to head and we realised something may not be right and it’s not going to work, we took a step back and looked a lot of different teams."

Uggla also paid homage to former chairman Glen Henderson for ensuring the takeover was performed properly, and what his vision for the club looks like in the years to come.

“We made sure it was done in the right way and we did our due dilligence. From all the teams we saw, from the Championship down to the National League North or South, we just felt York was the right one to go for.

“Fair play to Glen and his family for making it a much nicer experience than the old guy at Yeovil.

“What we were looking for was a team we could take as far as we wanted to take it.

“You look at the facilities and it’s not National League facilties, the support is unbelievable and that’s in the bad times. Imagine if you started to produce some top football and started climbing the leagues.

“We have quite a clear vision of what we want to do.

“What’s next is phase two which is going after players who are established and ready to go. If the right player comes along and it’s the right deal, we want to spend money.

“We want to have a squad that is capable of doing what we want to do this season, that’s priority number one now.

“In the next week that will look a lot better.”
