TADCASTER Albion will host a charity match between Yorkshire Spurs Supporters’ Club and Tottenham Hotspur Legends next month to help raise awareness towards Prostate Cancer UK.

The So-Trak Stadium will look to raise money towards the cause with ticket sales and a raffle. There will also be a auction for a signed pair of Spurs legend, Jermaine Defoe's boots, with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer UK.

The award-winning Yorkshire Spurs have already raised over £25,000 towards charities and have helped raise awareness for the cause, and previously held a charity match at Marine FC.

Tadcaster will host the event on Sunday, July 2 (2pm) with admission prices at £6 for adults and £2 for juniors.

Spurs legend Michael Dawson, who accumulated 236 appearances for the club, will be in attendance at the charity fixture.

Paul Pavlou, a member of the Supporters’ Club, is excited for the event, and is hoping to raise some valuable money for the Prostate Cancer UK.

"I just can't wait, we've been planning it for a few months. Prostate cancer is something that is very close to me and a few of the other players that are playing.

"Its a cause that means a lot to the Spurs players that are playing as well, it's close to everyone really.

"Ex-Spurs player, Ray Clemence, passed away from prostate cancer, so it's close to everyone involved with Tottenham Hotspur.

"I'm excited and Tadcaster can't wait for it either, I think it's the first time they've hosted a legends match with ex-professionals.

"They're really looking forward to it, it's their first game before pre-season so they're busy getting the ground ready and everything.

"Every penny on the day goes directly to Prostate Cancer UK, we're going to have a raffle, we're going to auction a pair of Jermaine Defoe's boots which he donated to us.

"I hope as many people as possible attend. Just come and enjoy the day, the aim is to spread awareness for Prostate Cancer UK."

Spurs legends Michael Dawson and Jermaine Defoe are also in full support of the event.

“I’m proud to wear Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Man of Men’ badge every weekend on Soccer Saturday and this is a cause I care about deeply.” Dawson enthused.

“It affects one in eight men, so its vitally important that we get the message out to fans about the dangers of prostate cancer, and raise funds to try and beat this disease.

“My mate Jeff Stelling has raised £1.5m and so much awareness with his walks, and I know the Yorkshire Spurs Supporters’ club joined him a few years ago and continue to support Prostate Cancer UK.

“Tottenham Hotspur has also supported the charity for many years now, with the disease sadly affecting one of the club’s greatest ever goalkeepers Ray Clemence.

“I’ll be delighted to take part when Yorkshire Spurs take on the Spurs Legends in the charity game later this summer and its great to hear that Yorkshire Spurs will become the first team to play in the new Prostate FC shirts.

“It’s shaping up to be a great day up in Yorkshire so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Defoe has kindly donated a pair of boots to Yorkshire Spurs, which will be available through auction at the So-Trak Stadium with all funds raised going to Prostate Cancer UK.

“I recently found out the stats about prostate cancer and it shocked me.” Defoe admitted.

“This disease affects one in eight men in the UK and those odds shorten to one in four if you are black. That’s unacceptable.

“I’m thankful that prostate cancer has not affected my family, but I know people who have been affected including the great Ray Clemence, a former Spurs hero and someone I looked up to in the England set-up, and Chris Powell, who I work alongside and has done so much to raise awareness.

“I know the club continue to support the brilliant work of Prostate Cancer UK, and it’s great that the Yorkshire Spurs Supporters’ club will be taking on the Spurs legends later this summer to raise crucial funds and awareness for the charity.

“I was delighted to donate a pair of my boots to be auctioned off and I wish everyone involved a really successful day.”

Tadcaster are also pleased to be hosting the charity event, saying: "We are delighted to welcome the Spurs Legends and the Yorkshire Spurs to the SoTrak Stadium on Sunday 2nd July for the Charity Match on behalf of Prostate Cancer Uk.

"It is not the first time that Tadcaster Albion has made its facilities available to help with fund raising for this important charity - Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK - some 48,600 men are diagnosed with it each year and around 12,000 die as a result.

"So we ask you to get down to the SoTrak Stadium in Ins Lane, Tadcaster on July 2nd for a 2.00 pm kick off.

"The Bars will be open, both inside and outside. It's the first match at the club prior to the pre season friendlies and we are hoping for a good attendance."

York-based businesses North South and Allfa have both sponsored the event too, with North South sponsoring the match ball, and Allfa sponsoring the man-of-the-match accolade.
