YORK City have completed the signing of forward Cedric Main, upon the expiry of his contract with Blyth Spartans.

Main becomes Michael Morton's second Summer signing, after goalkeeper David Stockdale made his long-awaited return to North Yorkshire on Sunday.

The 25-year-old striker will depart Blyth upon the expiry of his contract in July, after notching 16 goal contributions in the Vanarama National League North last season and helping Blyth Spartans to secure safety in the sixth division.

Main will be a welcomed addition to partner captain Lenell John-Lewis, being well-known for his pace and eye for goal.

The forward began his senior career in Netherlands with FC Groningen, before making the switch to Spain to join CF La Nucia.

Main also played for Almagro CF in Spain before making the switch to England, joining FC United of Manchester in 2021.

He had a brief spell in Manchester before joining South Shields, eventually making the move alongside manager Graham Fenton to Blyth Spartans.

Main spoke on his arrival to City, telling the club website: "I’ve played here before with Blyth and I thought it was a beautiful stadium, a good team as well. So I’m very pleased to get it over the line.”

“I’m strong, I have a lot of pace,” the forward added on his playing style.

“I like to dribble and like to get the fans off their seats.”

Morton was pleased to bring in the forward, saying: “We are delighted to add Cedric to the team.

“He first caught our eye back in December when we played against Blyth in the FA Trophy.

“Since then, the club have been monitoring his progress and a lot of Cedric's key attributes, stat metrics, and player behaviours marry up well with our recruitment strategy.

“He showcases a good level of personal possession, excellent movement patterns, and a great hunger to win the ball back quickly while also being able to play across all 4 attacking positions."
