YORK-RAISED defender Charlie Cresswell has been named in the England under-21’s squad ahead of the European tournament in June.

Cresswell was raised in York and is the son of former City striker Richard Cresswell, who was a prodigy of the Minstermen academy made 106 appearances in City colours across three spells with the club.

Richard also ended his career in the York area, plying his trade with Tadcaster Albion.

His son, Charlie, is a product of the Leeds United academy, and has just ended the season on-loan with Sky Bet Championship side Millwall, who missed out on the play-offs on the final day of the season.

Cresswell has been called up to the under-21’s preparation camp to begin building towards the under-21’s euros next month, alongside the likes of Levi Colwill, Oliver Skipp and Morgan Gibbs-White.

The centre-half made 28 appearances on loan with Millwall last season, but struggled with injuries towards the end of the season.

He’ll be hoping for an opportunity in the Whites first team, should Leeds suffer relegation from the Premier League on Sunday.
