FORMER York City striker Richard Brodie has been appointed as manager of Burscough FC.

Brodie played for York across two spells, making a combined 152 appearances.

He began his time with City in 2007 and played for the Minstermen until 2010, making 135 appearances and scoring 53 goals in that time.

Brodie was involved in five seasons in his first spell, including a loan move to Barrow, and helped maintain the club in the Conference Premier.

He also helped the Minstermen reach the Isuzu FA Trophy final, before finishing as runners-up after falling to a 2-0 defeat to Stevenage in 2009.

In the 35-year-old's second spell with York, he was part of the City squad that were relegated to the Vanarama National League North, also playing for Boston United and Macclesfield Town in the same season.

It's Brodie's second managerial role, after originally working as a first-team coach for Ashton Athletic and as manager for Skelmersdale United.

Burscough said on social media: "Burscough FC are delighted to announce that Richard Brodie has been appointed as our new first team manager for the 2023/24 season.

"The club received an unprecedented number of high-quality applicants for the position demonstrating the attraction and ambition of Buscough FC.

"Richard will start work with immediate effect as he now sets about building a competitive squad for an exciting set of pre-season fixtures and the season ahead.

"Good luck Richard and COYG!".
