YORK City manager has admitted that midfielder Olly Dyson deserved to win the Clubman of the Year award.

Dyson was crowned with the award prior to kick-off against Aldershot Town last Saturday, which was voted by the supporters.

Morton was full of praise for Dyson, and is hoping to see the midfielder improve for next season.

“I think everybody knows what Dys offers.” Morton told the Press.

“I think he’s played a number of different positions over the last three or four years from when he’s come out of Huddersfield, and it’s probably been difficult for him to nail down a position.

“This is one of his first years where he’s probably played the same position for the most of the year, he’ll be the first to admit he’s probably got quite a bit to work on but he’s keen and willing to learn.

“For the fans he always leaves everything on the pitch, and I said that to the whole squad at half-time, I was fuming at half-time.

“I just felt like we were letting them pass us by.

“Credit to him and his hard work and his team mates supporting him and he deserves the award."

Morton also admitted that he was disappointed not to have mathematically secured safety in the Vanarama National League after York’s 2-2 draw with Aldershot.

“It would have been better if we had it done and dusted by now, we could have gone and enjoyed it and opened up a bit and had a really good go.

“It’s going to be a good occasion, I keep hearing that the fan count keeps going up and up and there’s more tiers.

“It’s probably the best ground in the league and we’re playing against a good side, so we’ll relish that challenge and hopefully it’ll be a good day.”
