ALDERSHOT Town manager Tommy Widdrington admitted that he didn't want to 'rely on anyone else' in securing their Vanarama National League safety against York City on Saturday.
The Shots are now mathematically safe after picking up a point against York, thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Tyler Frost.
But after Torquay United suffered a late blow in a 2-2 draw with Altrincham, Widdrington admitted that he wasn't paying attention to their result, and was only focusing on his side.
“That was the message from the off, we didn’t want to rely on anybody else." Widdrington told the Aldershot media team.
"These lads were in a low place when I first walked in the door, they weren’t on a great run of form.
"But with five games we’ve picked up points in every one of those games, we’ve scored in every one
of those games and that’s a recipe for doing okay.
“I’m really delighted that it won’t go down to the pressure of the last game. I’ve played in those games at a higher level than his and it’s a big ask to get it right.
"I honestly didn’t know what was going on up the road at Altrincham, I wasn’t really interested because I care about this group."
Widdrington also admitted he had no arguments against both penalties that were given to City.
"From where I am I'm not sure, I can't see." Widdrington confessed.
"At the end of the day he's given them so we can't take that back. They've scored one and they've not scored the other but they've scored in the second phase of attack which is really disappointing.
"When I play golf I don't tell you how I've done, I just tell you how many I've hit!
"From that point of view, we got over the line."
