ALDERSHOT Town manager Tommy Widdrington has described Saturday’s clash with York City as ‘the biggest game of the season’ for the Shots.

Widdrington’s side currently find themselves in 18th position in the Vanarama National League and just one place above York, with six points separating Aldershot and the relegation zone.

A point on Saturday could realistically secure Aldershot’s survival, and Widdrington is keen for his players to get the job.

“At the end of the day it’s the next game in front of us, so it’s the biggest game of the season, but that’s for no more reason than it’s just the next game.” Widdrington told the Aldershot media team.

“Our approach has been very similar to the other four games that I have been in charge here. We’ll have a head count at the end of today and go up with 18 or 19 fit players with a bit of luck.

“At the end of the day we need fit and able bodies for this weekend, it’s a massive game for us because it’s the next one and we’d like to add to our tally.

“I hope we’re motivated enough going into every game, at the end of the day if and when we do get clear of the dreaded trap door then I’m having a look at that but I’m not celebrating it.

“It’s an achievement but it’s not one to be known for.

“At the end of the day I left a group that were certainly going onto to win or end up in the play-offs position and that’s a successful season.

“I think this football club can do better and I’m hoping and planning to really be at this level at least.

“There’s no dressing it up, we’re in a situation where it isn’t done and people shouldn’t think that we’re safe, it’s not like that at all and that’s disrespectful to the teams around us.

“We need to make sure in our next two games that we take control of our destiny, and nobody else.

“When I spoke to you on Tuesday after the games I had no idea about the other scores of the other teams, and that’s not disrespecting them but I can’t affect them.

“We control this group. So far the return has been really good in our last four games, I want the same out of the next two.”
