A POPULAR vlogging series visited North Yorkshire last weekend.

The Padded Seat dished out their verdict on the hospitality at the Flamingo Land Stadium as Scarborough took on Buxton in the Vanarama National League North on Saturday.

Though the Seagulls’ play-off charge took a hit with a 1-0 defeat to their opponents, the Padded Seat’s verdict of their day in North Yorkshire was overwhelmingly positive.

With tickets for the fixture priced at £14 and hospitality-only tickets at £25pp, Scarborough was praised for its affordability and overall matchday experience, with vlogger Kyle Mattison also pleased to have been able to enjoy a refreshing pint of beer in the stands.

Since its establishment last year, The Padded Seat has grown rapidly to reach over 850,000 followers on social media and has earned a combined 130 million views.

With their previous videos having covered matchday experiences at Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and Chelsea, and even as far afield as Belgium-based Genk, fans have been quick to voice their happiness at testing the hospitality at clubs lower down the English footballing pyramid.

The four-minute-long video, which has been viewed almost 10,000 times on YouTube since it was published on Monday evening, opens with Mattison showing the sea view from his room at the Crown Spa Hotel, on Esplanade in the town, a place that he admits he would recommend to others.

He then made the short trip across town to the Flamingo Land Stadium, where he was met by a display board reading “Welcome The Padded Seat, we hope that you enjoy your visit here today with us at Scarborough Athletic FC” before being escorted into the main stand.

There, he interacted with the club’s players, who were signing signatures at the door, “showing another great example of how players further down the pyramid are more accessible”.

Seating at a table with a perfect view of the pitch came as a welcome surprise to Kyle, as did the complimentary bottle of Scarborough’s ‘No Battle No Victory’ brew blend, which he believed was “definitely worth trying”.

He was also given a matchday programme, and commented that the personalised Scarborough Athletic beer mats were a “nice touch”.

After “really enjoying” the pie, peas and potatoes, and chocolate cake with cream, which he rated three out of five stars, Kyle was personally greeted by Seagulls’ manager Jonathan Greening, also receiving a card that had been signed by the club’s players.

He then took the opportunity to tour the stadium, most notably the club’s outside Victory Bar, a popular destination before kick-off that features a live band, pre-match entertainment and a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks.

A few stray footballs amid shot practice later, Kyle then visited the club’s ‘Boro Shop’ store, commenting on his love of the Scarborough Athletic logo before returning to his allocated seat in the main stand.

Although not padded, Kyle had a ‘The Padded Seat’ seat padding, which he gave to a Scarborough fan upon the game’s conclusion.

The video concludes with Kyle’s ratings - with Scarborough receiving ratings of five stars for hostesses and staff and value, four stars for VIP areas, and three stars for food.

Scarborough rate favourably against another North Yorkshire club, Sky Bet League Two’s Harrogate Town, with his visit to the EnviroVent Stadium, priced at £95, earning five stars for hostesses and staff, and four stars for VIP areas, value and food.
