YORK Valkyrie have announced that Sunday’s Betfred Women’s Super League home opener against St Helens has set a new attendance record.
Some 1,073 fans were in attendance as Lindsay Anfield’s charges overturned a six-point deficit to maintain their perfect start to the season, the highest crowd for a standalone Valkyrie fixture at the stadium.
Despite being handed perhaps the toughest start to the new season, York have laid down their marker for the Super League title, following up an opening day 34-12 victory against reigning champions Leeds Rhinos in front of a record crowd at Headingley Stadium with a similarly comfortable 26-6 triumph against St Helens.

Tries from Tamzin Renouf, Emma Kershaw and Rhiannion Marshall saw the Valkyrie fail to concede again after falling behind to Leah Burke’s score early on, with Hollie-Mae Dodd also marking her final York appearance with a try and an assist ahead of her blockbuster move to NRLW outfit Canberra Raiders.
The Valkyrie return to action on Sunday (2pm), as they travel to Barrow Raiders for the first of their Group D Challenge Cup fixtures.
