MICHAEL MORTON will be back in the dugout for York City’s crucial Vanarama National League clash with Aldershot Town, as first confirmed by BBC Radio York.

Morton was absent from York’s 3-2 defeat against Torquay United after testing positive for covid-19, but has recovered to return to training on Monday and will now be back on the sidelines on Saturday.

City will take on Aldershot at the LNER Community Stadium for a crucial match against another fellow relegation-threatened side.

Aldershot currently find themselves on a three-match unbeaten run, after picking up draws against Yeovil Town and Eastleigh, before securing three points against Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

It will be a welcome addition to have Morton back on the sidelines after missing the Torquay clash, in which an Aaron Jarvis hattrick saw Lenell John-Lewis and Adam Crookes’ strikes as just consolations.

After the Torquay result, it’s now back-to-back defeats for York, who are viewing Saturday’s penultimate game of the season as a must-win.

After Saturday’s defeat to Torquay, assistant manager Tony McMahon spoke on Morton’s return, saying: “Hopefully Monday morning. I spoke to him briefly this morning a couple of times and he still feels under the weather.

“We wish him well and hopefully he is back in for Monday morning with the group of players because we need him.

“We need everyone. We need Mikey back in on the training pitch to go and prepare for a big game.

“There’s pressure in every game, there was pressure before the [Torquay] game.

“There’s always pressure in every single game, from the first game to the last game in the season, no matter what you’re playing for and what position you’re in, there’s always pressure.

“As a player that’s good pressure, that’s the pressure you want, you want to play in these big games and dress it however you want, Saturday is a big game.

“We spoke to the players there and all they can do is prepare, prepare properly.”
