YORK City manager Michael Morton has provided an update on the injury to Lenell John-Lewis, and is hopeful the captain can return for the Minstermen's trip to Torquay United on Saturday (3pm).

John-Lewis picked up a knock in York's 3-1 victory over Chesterfield on Good Friday, meaning he was unavailable for City's 3-0 defeat to FC Halifax Town on Monday.

But the York boss is hopeful his captain will be back available for Saturday's longest-trip of the season, with the 650 mile-round trip to Torquay.

"We've got to get him assessed, he's just taking it by each day." Morton confirmed to BBC Radio York.

"We're hoping that if he has a couple days of rest then he might be in for next week.

"I think with Lenny when he's not in the team you can see it massively. At the start of the season before we came in, the team was built around him.

"I think York were third in terms of playing direct play forward, so the team was sort of built to play in and around him.

"So when we're missing him you can see it today, we wanted to go back to the default but you could see that every time we got under pressure it was about clipping it forward.

"And it's not really [Danny] Rowe's game or Shaq's [Forde] game. So disappointing, but we need to make sure that he is back soon.

"Sometimes you can train here then set off and go for it but we're trying to train halfway, so we'll be training in Birmingham and then heading down and hopefully putting in a lot better performance than that.

"It's down to us, we've put ourselves in that situation where we've gone and put two unbelievable results together and I know it wasn't a great game against Scunthorpe but that was another point.

"We wanted to get something from the game today because we knew that three games in seven days was difficult anyways and we haven't changed the personnel too much.

"Obviously we miss Lenny [Lenell John-Lewis] as well, so it's just one of them.

"We've got to make sure we dust ourselves down and we know we can go and put a performance in, we're not bad on the road so we've just got to make sure we go and get something next week to make up for us not getting anything today."

Morton is also hoping that his side can find more consistency, after string back-to-back wins before suffering a demoralising 3-0 defeat to Halifax.

"I said it last week but it's a consistency thing.

"You've got to be consistent in your play, we haven't changed anything and we try to keep the same structure in terms of what our system is.

"We've tried to keep with the same personnel but that just shows a few of the cracks where we've been inconsistent this year with this side, they've just got to be more consistent.

"We've got to make sure we pick ourselves up and go again next week."
