YORK City interim manager Michael Morton was 'disappointed' with the manner of goals his side conceded, as the Minstermen fell to a 3-0 defeat to Vanarama National League leaders Wrexham.

An own-goal from Ryan Whitley, a header from substitute Sam Dalby and a last-ditch strike from Elliot Lee dealt York a miserable defeat.

Morton was displeased with the quality of goals his side conceded, after defeat to Wrexham meant that the gap between York and the relegation zone was reduced to five points.

“I’m disappointed with them goals, the last goals." Admitted Morton.

"In the first half it was probably everything we expected. They came flying out of the box and had a few half-chances.

"I think we then steadied the ship a little bit, we didn’t create loads of chances, but I think most of their chances came from our sloppy play.

"It’s just a little bit of a lack of concentration in the final third and then they broke on us.

"We had a spell where I thought we kind of split even both ways and the kids obviously hit a great strike.

"I don’t know, there’s a bit of a debate in there because the ref has told us it’s gone straight in off of the bar, but that’s not possible.

"We went in and assessed it and it’s gone in off of the second phase. It is what it is.

"In the second half it was the same thing, we knew they were going to come flying out of the blocks and put pressure on us.
"I thought we defended the box really well and on the set plays, and then we started to get a bit of a foothold on our position and we said that the game plan was to go for it.

"They changed their personnel and we knew that would be a difficult thing defending set plays.

"And with the last goal that the lad has scored, we’ve switched off a little bit and we didn’t cover our lines, but I think we were trying to be a little bit forward thinking."

Wrexham's opener came under controversial circumstances, with the York players protesting to the referee that James Jones' original strike hadn't crossed the line.

“It’s one of them, it was a great strike from the kid, but if you’re limiting them to a 30-yard shot then we’re not in a bad shape.

"We maybe could have gotten out a little bit quicker to block it, but it’s a good strike.

"It’s come back off of the bar and gone in from there, but there was a foul somewhere in there as well. But it was disappointing.

"Even at half-time, we felt we could have gotten back into the game, we knew it would be limited chances, you could see what they were about and they had pedigree.

"They’ve only dropped two points here all season, so we just needed to be patient and I thought we got a bit of a foothold in the game.

"We made the changes but unfortunately it didn’t fall for us."
