YORK CITY have confirmed the deadline day signing of striker Danny Rowe.

Rowe joins the Minstermen from Vanarama National League promotion-hopefuls Chesterfield on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old becomes interim manager Michael Morton’s first signing, with his transfer in part been funded by the York City Supporters’ Group Boost the Budget campaign.

Rowe has managed 202 goals in 407 career appearances, and is most well-known for his time with Vanarama National League North outfit AFC Fylde, where he established himself at the club with 157 goals in 250 matches, across two spells.

That includes the 2016/17 National League North season, where Rowe bagged himself an incredible 47 goals in 42 appearances and guided the Coasters to promotion to the fifth tier.

Fylde have since been relegated, but not before Rowe spearheaded the club to the Vanarama National League play-off final, before being defeated by Salford City in 2019.

"Look at his pedigree. He scores goals, that's what he does everywhere he goes." Morton enthused.

"I've spoke to a number of managers and coaches that have worked with him, they've all said that he's got mass talent in terms of where he is at and he's got a good character.

"His goals speak for himself, you could see it in training today in terms of the finishing practicing, he was on fire to start with and you can see that he's been a little bit unfortunate this year with why he's not played as much.

"I've just had a good conversation [with him] with the reasons why, I think anybody with his quality needs to be playing in this league or the league above.

"He's going to add value to us, and hopefully we can get plenty of minutes out of him until the end-of-season.

"I think everybody knows that with everything going on above that we have been going back and forward, we've been wanting to bring in two or three that we felt would have strengthened the team, I've been open with that.

"But credit to the club this week, they've backed us and we went in with a few names and Danny was one of them.

"He was one of our main targets, and again to the club they have supported and got it over the line."
