YORK City interim manager Michael Morton has admitted that Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Altrincham was 'the biggest disappointment' that he has witnessed since taking over on a temporary basis.

An underwhelming York performance meant that Altrincham progressed to the semi-finals of the Isuzu FA Trophy, ending any hopes of a trip to Wembley for Morton's side.

But with the two teams facing one another again tomorrow night in Vanarama National League action, Morton is keen to see improvements from his squad.

“It’s probably the biggest disappointment that I have seen since taking over as interim manager." Morton admitted.

"The players know that they can do a lot better. All we need to do is make sure that we are on it.

"We’ve had a good chat about what the team looks like for tomorrow, we’re going to be more attacking and we are going to go for it.

"Hopefully the lads will be focused and put in a better performance.

“I think we didn’t start the brightest, and I thought we was sloppy in terms of our possession and then obviously gave away two easy goals.

“Watching it back this morning, we’ve reflected and I thought we were good in the second half.

"Their goalkeeper has pulled off a good save and there were a lot of half chances.

"So we were happy with the second half, but the first half was just not good enough.

“They’re going to have a lot of confidence, and the players that are coming in will have no pressure so they can play freely, and any team that is playing freely is dangerous.

"Especially a team like them because they are going to have a good pedigree, you know how they like to play and they like to dominate the ball, so it’s not going to be easy."
