YORK City interim manager Michael Morton has described the remaining Vanarama National League fixtures as ‘ten cup finals’ ahead of tomorrow night's match with Altrincham.

Morton’s side currently find themselves six points clear of the relegation zone with ten games remaining, but remain wary with both Gateshead and Yeovil Town having games in hand on the Minstermen.

The York interim boss understands the importance of staying in the league, and wants to see the club set out a plan for the future.

“I think we’ve got a good enough side to stay up but we have got ten cup finals now.” Morton confessed.

“We need to make sure we focus on that priority first and then make sure that the top get it all sorted over the next couple of weeks or so.

“With everything that’s been going on above, and I don’t think they’ll mind me saying, we’ve had a couple of times where we have had players ready to come in and then because we don’t know if there is a new manager coming through we haven’t followed through with it.

“At the moment we are just trying to get the best out of what we have got, if we get some clarity in terms of what it looks like for the next ten games.

“If it is us we will try and get a couple in. If it’s not, we’ll have to wait for a new manager and see what they want to do.

“We’ve been having a discussion a couple of times a week to try and keep in the loop, it’s not easy.

“But the main thing for me is to do the best for the club and the players and we’ll just keep doing what we have got to do and keep trying to get points.

“Obviously it would be easier if we knew what was happening, so we can clarify.

“There’s a few things between us, we need to start mapping out what next year looks like, but whether if that is in this league or the league below we need to make sure that there is a plan and a strategy put in place.

“The longer that is, the more difficult it becomes for next year so for now we will crack on and do what we have got to do, and we’ll do our best.”
