YORK City interim manager Michael Morton was 'chuffed to bits' for his players after securing a crucial three points against Bromley.

The sending off of goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook was a massive moment in the match, as Bromley had no substitute goalkeeper to replace the shot-stopper.

This allowed York to score three against the play-off chasing Ravens, with Lenell John-Lewis, Ryan Fallowfield and Luke James getting their names on the scoresheet.

Morton was delighted with the result, but felt especially happy for his players.

"I’m chuffed to bits for them, we’ve said in our last two games that we’ve performed really well." Enthused Morton.

"We had a different strategy for this game. We know they're a good footballing side and we had to allow them to have the ball and I just thought we were really good in the in the transition.

"I thought we broke well, we got the pitch early doors and got the set plays. I think we deserve that.

"At half-time I know it changed the game a little bit in terms of their goalkeeper getting sent off, but I think we deserve to take that.

"It was a great penalty from Lenny [Lenell John-Lewis] and then second-half we were a little bit shaky to start with.

"Once we got the shape right we started to look controlled in the game again.

"I’m just chuffed to bits for the lads, because it's been a tough week. Obviously travelling down here three times in seven days, I think we're ready for a bit of a sleep now!

"We've just got to make sure we get ready for the weekend now."

Morton felt the decision from the referee to send of Charles-Cook was the correct one, after the former Coventry City goalkeeper hacked Mitch Hancox down after the midfielder rounded the shot-stopper.

"He is in on goal isn’t he? Mitch has been quite clever with the jump press. It was coming from the side and he was just trying to nick one, he said he was just going to keep going and he got through.

"It's just the game now isn’t it? He’s come and he’s taken him out and he it was a goalscoring opportunity.

"The penalty was superb. Look at the pressure, it took a while did that. Lenny was composed and he put it two-foot in and two-foot down, it's nearly a perfect penalty.

"Obviously Fallow [Ryan Fallowfield] is there and he's just been screaming in the changing rooms, but he said he hasn’t scored for about four years!

"But what a finish and he should have scored again! But then just to finish it off there as well, Dan [Pybus] with a ball great ball in, great movement from Jamo [Luke James].

"I'm just chuffed to bits for Jamo because he's not been quite in the team. He's had a few injuries and he's been chomping away. He deserves that more than anybody, it was a great header.

"We've been creating the chances. We’ve just not been taking them and I think we were clinical tonight.

"I think with Ry [Ryan Fallowfield] the last couple of games, we have been playing him a lot higher.

"But if you look at what he's been doing, he's had a few really good assists, he’s been putting some good balls in and I think he deserves that.

"Not just for tonight, but the work rate he has been putting in for the last two or three weeks."
