YORK City interim manager Michael Morton has praised Tuesday night opposition Bromley, admitting that ‘they are a really good side’.

Morton is leading York through a hectic fixture list, which has seen City play three games in their last seven days, that have all been away from home.

It’s a second trip to the capital for Morton’s side, after falling to a 2-1 defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

Bromley are in shaky form, with just one victory in their last four games and dropping points against Notts County on Saturday after a 93rd minute equaliser from former Minsterman Macauley Langstaff.

But with the Ravens in 9th position in the Vanarama National League, a win could see Bromley rise into the play-off positions.

“They are a really good side. They’re really well organised, they’ve got some good players in there and they’ve got a good structure, a good balance and the manager has been around as well.” Explained Morton.

“We know that they are going to be a tough task and it’s not easy playing on the 3G but there might be a bit of snow. That’s the last thing we need right now!

“But we need to make sure we stick to our game plan and be hard to beat and can hopefully come away with something.

“We’ve been on the road for the past two games and we’re travelling back down today, so it’s hard for us.

“They had a real tough game at the weekend. I think the biggest thing for us, and this is a real disappointment, is that we haven’t been out of any of the games and have been in every game.

“Even the teams who are going to finish around the play-offs, we have been as good as [them].

“We’ve just not been as ruthless. We need to make sure we impose ourselves, and we need to make sure we are more ruthless.”

Morton isn’t too keen on the challenge of playing on a 3G surface compared to the usual grass pitches, which only three teams in the league possess, including Bromley.

"It’s not for me. Maybe that’s a little bit old school, I know they do it abroad quite a bit like in Scandanavia and everywhere, but it’s just not for me. “ Morton admitted.

“I think we train on grass, we play on grass, I just think that is the game for us.

“It’s good for bringing in income in terms of the community as well. It’s just an old school thing but I’m just not used to it, I think that the next generation of players will be used to it because they train on it more.

“But when you’ve got that balance of senior players and players who aren’t used to it, it is tough on the joints and even when we do train on 3G the lads are in bits the next day.

“It’s not a bad 3G, it’s not as bad as some of the ones we train on I think. But for us it’s just making sure we stick to what we have got to do and give everything we can.

“If you’re training on it all the time then it’s going to be an advantage.

“You’re getting used to how the ball rolls and the speed of play, I know they do water it as well which is an interesting one.

“It’s going to be an advantage for them but we have trained on 3G three or four times this year so it’s not that we haven’t done it. We’ve just got to make sure we adapt and get ready for the game.”

York have enjoyed the majority of possession and chances in their past two matches, but have twice failed to pick up any points.

It’s a frustration for Morton, who was pleased with both performances.

“When you start to look at the confidence and quality and other things, you look at the past three or four games but we have had more chances than the opposition and have got the ball in the box so there’s not much more we can do.

“The players just need to take their chance.

“We can score goals, we just need to believe that we can score goals and if we go out and put on a similar performance that we have for the last two games then I’d expect us to get something from Tuesday.”
