DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE are expecting York City to take the game to them in this Saturday’s match between the two Vanarama National League sides, according to Daggers supporter Joel Page.

But what else is Joel expecting from the clash tomorrow afternoon?

1. How has Dagenham’s season gone so far?

The last few days - ending Notts County’s 25 game unbeaten run by inflicting their only home defeat so far, before following it up with defeat at Maidenhead in midweek - aptly encapsulate the inconsistency which has defined us not only this season but the preceding ones, ultimately culminating in the long overdue departure of Daryl McMahon. The difference in performance levels in those aforementioned away games was borderline unbelievable, but unfortunately the latter we are far more accustomed to seeing, and the continual recurrence of such games is why we are unlikely to fulfil our aspirations once more. That being said, we can beat anybody on our day, as last weekend proved.

2. How do Dagenham tend to set up formation/style of play wise?

It will likely be a 5-3-2 again, with Sam Ling and either Myles Weston or George Saunders the wing-backs, while the centre half trio will almost certainly comprise Harry Phipps, Manny Onariase and Josh Hare. The likeliest change is Ángelo Balanta coming back into the starting lineup, after dropping to the bench off the back of two goals from as many starts. In terms of our stylistic configuration, everything hinges upon the marauding runs of our wing-backs, with an emphasis upon playing off imposing target man Inih Effiong.

3. Who should York look out for?

Effiong has made a tremendous impact after signing from Aldershot Town, since which he has promptly picked up where he left off in what is the most productive goalscoring campaign in his entire career. This stands at 17 in the league so far, the latest a stunning winner at Meadow Lane.

4. What are you expecting from the match?

I anticipate York taking the game to us, as in full knowledge that we do not typically withstand pressure well, and they certainly need the points because the relegation trapdoor is not too far beneath. We were second best in every department in October’s reverse meeting, so the Minstermen will set out to dictate the midfield battle again while remaining wary of the counter-attacks we can spring.

5. Score prediction?

We’re the hardest team in the division to forecast, but this does feel like the kind of game we usually conjure up a result. 2-0 Dagenham.

6. Who do you want as the new Dagenham manager?

That’s a tough one. Ben Strevens is the likeliest candidate having established himself as an adored figure within the fanbase from his playing days here, as well as demonstrating his managerial capabilities by taking Eastleigh to the play-offs a few years ago, so would probably tick a lot of boxes. However, that would be a risky appointment as he has not proven himself beyond that sole example. I would say the most ambitious targets still within the realms of feasibility would be Graham Alexander and Ian Burchnall. Either would suit me - I think we need a disciplinarian to be honest.
