YORK City interim manager Michael Morton sees Yeovil Town’s off-the-field issues as a ‘shame’, with Saturday’s opponents currently in a position of disarray.

Following Yeovil’s 2-0 defeat to Maidenhead United on Tuesday night, manager Mark Cooper was brutally honest, admitting to issues with making new signings and not having enough staff to even monitor injuries.

It’s another Vanarama National League club facing future uncertainties, and interim boss Morton is sad to see the situation unfold at York’s relegation rivals, even offering a little bit of advice based on the current predicament City find themselves in.

“It’s a shame because it’s such a good club.” Admitted Morton.

“They’ve got plenty of history and I don’t like seeing clubs in this sort of situation.

“But they’ve got to be like us, they’ve got to rally together and sort of try and move in the right direction.

“They pose different problems do Yeovil, compared to Boreham Wood.

“I think it’ll be a little bit more of a footballing game, they like to get it down and play although they are a couple of places below us.

“You know with the make up of our side that we will play when it’s right but ultimately what we’ve got to do is make sure we are organised and tight and to grow ourselves into the game.

“They’re an awkward side, they chop and change their side every week but we’ve said to the lads today to make sure we go out and implement what we’ve been doing for the past couple of weeks and to make sure we take our chances this week.

“It’s always hard when teams are chopping and changing.

“For myself I like the system match-ups, I like to have a plus one negative one. But what we are trying to do is stick with this system for now when we’ve looked quite solid in it.

“But there are going to be times when we are going to have to change and I think for us we just have to be switched on, make sure we go and impose our game and if we have to adapt we will adapt in the game.”

York were held to a 1-1 draw with Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, after a much-improved performance from the Minstermen.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game, we know it was a side that have been in and around the play-offs for the last couple of years.

“They’ve had a couple of cup runs too, they’ve got a good manager, they’re a good side and for us we just wanted to match them, which I think we did.

“We dealt with their strengths and to be fair looking back at the game and watching it yesterday, I think a draw was a fair result.

“We had a chance to nick it and so did they, so I’m just happy we’ve stopped that rut and hopefully that will give us a bit more confidence going into Saturday.”

Morton is keen to reinstate some form at the LNER Community Stadium, after a terrible run which has seen the Minstermen manage just two league victories in their last 19 matches.

“I’ve looked back on all the games, I’ve always had an eye on the York games anyways for many moons now.

“I think it’s just looking at them playing with confidence and they looked like they were a new group that were playing with confidence and that’s where we need to get back to.

“I know they had a bit of a dip in form before we came in so it was always going to be a challenge.

“We’ve just not found any consistency, we have a couple of wins and then we draw and then we lose quite a few.

“I think for us it is just making sure we become organised and harder to beat, a bit like how [John] Askey was.

“And then hopefully we start to take our chances and creep up the table a little bit.”
