LENELL JOHN-LEWIS is back in contention for York City on Tuesday night, after missing the Minstermen’s 3-1 defeat to Wealdstone due to personal issues.

Captain John-Lewis was an evident miss on Saturday, with York unable to penetrate the Wealdstone backline until stoppage time.

But ‘the Shop’ is back available for selection in Tuesday's match against Boreham Wood at the LNER Community Stadium (7.45pm), along with goalkeeper Ethan Ross who was submitted to hospital just over a week ago after falling ill.

“Lenny is back in.” Confirmed Morton.

“He does a lot of work out of possession and he’s a big part of how we structure our attacking play.

“I think before we came in he was a focal point for Askey and you could see it on Saturday when he wasn’t playing how much we missed him.

“We don’t want to rush Shaq [Forde] back because we don’t want to lose him for the season, so we will have a look and see who is gong to play alongside Lenny.

“Ethan’s back, he’s back training.

“He looks like he’s lost about a stone, but at least he was back and he was lively today and he’ll be back in tomorrow night.

“It’s a big decision. Ryan [Whitley] has come in and done well, but everybody knows that Ross is the number one so it’s something that we’ve now got to have a chat about as a team.”

Shaq Forde was another notable absence on Saturday, with the Watford loanee feeling a tight hamstring, and it looks as if he won’t be available again against Boreham Wood.

“We’re hoping he will be back in for contention on Saturday.

“It’s just a case of taking it day-by-day. We probably could have pushed him but if he does tear it then he is going to be out for a long time.

“But if he has a couple more days of rest then has a light session on Thursday and Friday then he might be back for Saturday.

“Everyone else seems fine, Jamo [Luke James] has just had his first training session back and obviously Sam Sanders is still out.

“Tommo [Nathan Thomas] is out as well. Everybody else has been back training so we will see how they are.

“Fraser [Kerr] came off with an ankle injury the other day so we need to again just see where he is at.

“[Gus Mafuta] is okay, he’s back training and we just need to get him fit.

“We haven’t had a chance to do any real fitness tests like the 1k or the 3k so we can’t test where he’s at fully, but he’s in and around the group and getting a feel for the ball and hopefully he will be back in contention in the next couple of weeks.

However, one major positive of City’s match against Wealdstone was the long-awaited return of fan favourite Maz Kouhyar, who made his first appearance of the new year after struggling with an abductor injury.

“It’s another one in we know what he can offer, he’s got something different from the rest of the team.

“He’s still up there in assists in terms of the rest of the league so we know what his qualities are, he wants to be playing and he’ll be banging on the door all week but we just don’t want him to breakdown.

“He came on and had a bit of a cameo the other day but hopefully we can put more minutes into him.

“At the end of the day we have got three games a week at the moment, so it’s just about managing that and getting him in when he’s ready.”
