YORK City have confirmed that Michael Morton will be in interim charge for the Minstermen until a new manager is appointed.

Morton, who was assistant manager to the recently sacked David Webb, will take charge of York's Isuzu FA Trophy fifth round match with Southend United on Saturday (3pm).

Joining Morton on the touchline will be Scott Barrow, Paddy McLaughlin and goalkeeping coach Joe Stead.

Morton has previously been in charge of two matches for York when Webb was struggling with a lung infection and covid-19 in December.

It was a bright period under Morton, with a 2-0 victory over high-flying Woking and a comfortable 5-0 triumph over Blyth Spartans in the FA Trophy third round.

Morton boasts 20 years of coaching experience, after beginning his career as a Lead Coach in Leeds United's academy sides in 2003.

He has since enjoyed a seven year stint at Premier League champions Manchester City, was manager at Tadcaster Albion between 2013 to 2018, before returning to Leeds once more at the end of 2018.

Appointed alongside Webb in December 2022, Morton will be keen to prove himself to the York supporters who have grown frustrated with the experience on and off-of-the-pitch in recent months.

The search for a new manager is still underway, with the decision being made between Glen Henderson and the Supporters' Trust.
