YORK City have announced the signing of experienced centre-back Mark Ellis.

Ellis, who becomes David Webb’s third addition, joins the club on a loan deal until the end-of-the season from Sky Bet League Two side Barrow.

The 34-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at fellow Vanarama National League side Torquay United, making nine appearances and even managing two goals from defence.

But with vast football league experience behind him, Ellis joins the Minstermen to supply extra cover to a York side hampered with injuries.

Ellis, who has played for 11 different clubs throughout his career, is available for selection in tomorrow night’s clash with Solihull Moors at the LNER Community Stadium (7.45pm).

On capturing the defender, manager Webb said: “I’m delighted to welcome Mark to York City on loan with us until the end of the season.

“He brings with him a wealth of playing experiences as well as great leadership qualities which will make him a great addition to the squad.”
