YORK City chairman Glen Henderson is facing scrutiny after reportedly making a rude gesture at supporters.

According to social media, Mr Henderson made the gesture at York supporters in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Maidenhead United, after fans began chanting for him to exit the club.

Mr Henderson’s reaction has led to anger among supporters, and demands for answers from the chairman.

Mr Henderson declined to comment when approached by The Press.

The relationship between fans and the chairman has decayed since Mr Henderson first became involved with the York board in July 2022, purchasing a 51 per cent stake in the club whilst the supporters trust held 49 per cent, and replacing long-standing and divisive ex-chairman Jason McGill.

But Mr Henderson opted to abruptly make the decision to sack highly-popular manager John Askey, who had guided the club to a much-needed promotion from the Vanarama National League North the season prior.

Mr Askey was not in the best of form for York, with a run of two victories in his final 10 matches, and oversaw a 2-1 defeat to Altrincham in his final match in charge.

But many believed that Mr Askey could turn things around, with the experienced manager proving himself to many York fans last season.

But with the atmosphere behind the club becoming more toxic, Mr Henderson told the trust he would be offering back his shares in a buy-back clause.

Mr Henderson has since withdrawn his offer, but the Trust insisted he had 'no provision' to do so and have since handed Mr Henderson an acceptance notice.
The deadline for Mr Henderson to leave and for a new owner to be found is Tuesday, April 4.
