YORK CITY starlet Maziar Kouhyar has signed a two-and-a-half year contract extension with the club.

The Afghanistan international has made 18 appearances for the Minstermen so far this season, before an abductor injury hampered his progress.

Kouhyar is yet to feature under manager David Webb, but becomes the most recent player to sign a long-term contract extension alongside Dan Pybus, Mitch Hancox, Adam Crookes and Nathan Thomas.

The winger originally joined the club towards the end of last season after an impressive spell with Vanarama National League North side Hereford, and made his impact in aiding City's promotion with the second goal in May's play-off final victory over Boston United.

He also scored on the opening day of the season in City’s 2-0 win over Woking at the LNER Community Stadium, which remains as his only league goal so far this season.

“I’m happy to get it over the line,” said Kouhyar after extending his deal with the Minstermen.

“It’s a club where I’ve really enjoyed my time and hopefully we can create more good memories like our promotion last year.

“Everything about the club, the stadium, the fans, the lads, the training. I just really like it here and I’m happy to extend for another two years.

“It’s a good place to develop. The league is a strong league with a lot of good teams and it’s good to put myself up against these kinds of players and teams.

“I feel like the more I play, the more I’ll improve, so that’s my goal for the next couple of years.”

Manager David Webb also enthused his delight with Kouhyar's new deal, with the 25-year-old edging closer to a return to action.

“I am delighted that Maz has decided to extend his contract with us”, said Webb.

“He possesses good attacking attributes and is an exciting player that adds lots of variety to our forward options.

“We are looking forward to working with Maz and to see how far he can develop with us at York City FC.”

The deal is subject to FA and National League approval.
