YORK CITY manager David Webb has reprimanded his side’s performance in last night's defeat to Oldham Athletic, claiming he is ‘very disappointed with the result’.

City were second best against a lowly Oldham side, with goals from Josef Yarney and Timmy Abraham sentencing the Minstermen to a 2-0 defeat.

But after a promising run which saw York defeat Maidstone United 4-1 and advance past Chelmsford City on a penalty shootout in the Isuzu FA Trophy fourth round, Tuesday’s result feels like a setback compared to recent positive results.

“Very disappointed with the result.” Webb rebuked.

“The first half we did okay, we created a few good chances, but I’m disappointed to concede a soft goal.

“I didn’t see it but it looked like Ethan [Ross] got clattered to me but I need to look at it again. But I thought that in the second half we didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game, we were quite poor.

“They’re individual mistakes, we can sort of dig out players on individual mistakes like that especially with our second half performance, it just wasn’t good enough.

“First and second balls we just weren’t good enough. We’ve had a good chat in the dressing rooms and we’ve addressed a few things, obviously the team is disappointed, I’m disappointed but we have to go again on Saturday."

Webb lined York up in a different formation, with three at the back, but quickly changed shape to combat the Latics.

“We changed it, we went into a 4-4-2 and we did aim to go forward before conceding the second goal.

“Listen we have to look at it, we got beat. We got beat by a team which I thought we could have win against if I’m honest, and we just have to look at ourselves and go again.

“We spoke about it before and it’s complacency. We can play well against the so-called better teams in the league and when we go play teams that are below us we seem to go into it with a complacency and a different approach.

“We’re not at it from the first whistle against teams like this, Oldham is a big club, they’ve got a strong physical players and they’re going to be up for the challenge and if we don’t match them within that we’re going to find ourselves in for a long evening like tonight.”
