YORK City winger Nathan Thomas has renewed his contract with the Minstermen until the end of the season.

Thomas signed a short-term deal with York in October after a period training with the first-team.

The 28-year-old made an instant impact, coming off the bench to assist a late Sam Sanders equaliser on his debut in the 1-1 home draw against Dagenham & Redbridge two months ago.

Thomas has since worked his way towards full fitness following a season-long lay-off after exiting Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical in the summer of 2021.

The former Sheffield United, Motherwell and Plymouth Argyle midfielder has contributed goals and assists over recent weeks for York against Woking and Blyth Spartans.

He completed his first 90 minutes since singing for City in Monday's 3-0 home defeat to Gateshead.

Manager David Webb expressed his delight at retaining Thomas.

Webb said: “We’re delighted that Nathan will be staying with us until the end of the season.

“He has been an important part of the group, not just as a player, but also as a person.

"We have been impressed with him since coming into the club and feel that he could play a key role in the remainder of the season.”

The deal is subject to approval by the National League and FA.

Thomas becomes the latest piece of business done by Webb since his arrival earlier this month.

Watford forward Shaqai Forde signed on loan until the end of the season on Wednesday.
