YORK City have appointed former Tottenham Hotspur academy coach and backroom staff member David Webb as their new manager.

Webb will take charge of York training for the first time on Monday, with his first match at the helm being next Saturday's trip to Woking (3pm).

The 45-year-old is taking his first managerial role after a string of youth football and off-field positions.

He began his career in professional football as an academy coach at AFC Wimbledon, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

Following as Millwall's head of academy coaching, Webb worked in talent identification, recruitment and analysis with Southampton, AFC Bournemouth and Tottenham.

Webb served as head of recruitment at Bournemouth and head of elite identification and player development at Tottenham under Eddie Howe and Mauricio Pochettino respectively.

The new York boss also has experience abroad, working as a consultant for Hoffenheim and Real Betis and a technical director for Ostersund FK.

Webb's most recent role was as the head of football operations at Huddersfield Town, whom he departed in 2020.

Working alongside Webb as assistant manager is Michael Morton, who departs as Leeds United youth development phase lead.

Webb succeeds John Askey, who was sacked to the dismay of York fans last month, having led City to promotion through the Vanarama National League last season and clear safety from relegation back in the National League.

The new boss takes over a side currently on an eight-match winless run and 17th in the table, seven points clear of the bottom four.
