PAUL JUBB retired injured in his Fairfield Challenger first round tie against Michael Mmoh.

York-born tennis star Jubb was a set down to Mmoh when he pulled out of the contest with an injury to his forearm and wrist.

Jubb, the world number 210, struggled through the only completed set, which he lost 6-2, against the Saudi Arabia-born Mmoh, who is now based in Florida.

Having conceded two earlier break points, world number 133 Mmoh broke Jubb's second serve game for a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth game, Jubb rallied to earn a pair of break points of his own, but was not able to capitalise at the American pulled 4-1 in front.

The pair exchanged successful service games before Jubb lost his serve for the second time in the eight, in which he managed just a solitary point.

Jubb had been hoping to build on a successful past fortnight.

The 22-year-old beat world-ranked 201 Mitchell Krueger in three sets (5-7, 6-4, 6-2) in the first round of the Charleston Challenger before the competition was abandoned due to Hurricane Ian in South Carolina.

Earlier this month, Jubb reached the quarter-finals of the Tiburon Challenger, following wins over Govind Nanda and Alex Michelsen.

Nanda was beaten in three sets (5-7, 6-4, 6-3) while Michelsen fell in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).

Jubb was eventually beaten in the last eight by Canadian Alexis Galarneau in three sets, losing 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4.
