YORK City Knights Ladies forward Hollie Dodd has been named as the Betfred Women's Super League young player of the year for 2022.

Dodd has been a stand-out player for York this season as the Knights secured a maiden BWSL League Leaders' Shield and won the inaugural Women's Nines.

The Ladies also reached a first ever Grand Final, but narrowly lost out to two-time champions Leeds Rhinos 12-4 at the Totally Wicked Stadium earlier this month.

Back-rower Dodd has been an essential part of the success that York have enjoyed this year and the England international has now been rewarded with the young player of the year award, which was handed out for the first time in the women's game.

The 19-year-old is the club's second award winner of the season, having seen full-back Tara Stanley named as the 2022 Woman of Steel on Thursday.

Dodd pipped Leeds Rhinos pair Keara Bennett and Fran Goldthorp to the trophy.

The York back-rower will be hopeful of featuring in England's 24-player squad for the World Cup, which will be confirmed by head coach Craig Richards tomorrow.

Meanwhile, York director of rugby Lindsay Anfield lost out in the coach of the year category.

Anfield was shortlisted alongside Warrington Wolves boss Lee Westwood and Leeds chief Lois Forsell, with the latter taking home the gong, having taken the Rhinos to a second BWSL title in four years.

The voting for the coach of the year and young player of the year awards was conducted by an internal RFL panel, which included members of the England Performance Unit.

Presentations were also made to the leading points-scorer and top tackler in the 2022 BWSL at the awards ceremony at Old Trafford.

Both of those winners came from the second section of the competition.

Michelle Davis, the full-back, goal-kicker and co-captain of the Wolves was the leading points scorer, while the Featherstone Rovers hooker Charley Blackburn was recognised as the top tackler.
