JOHN ASKEY insists that “there won’t be many teams who come here and get much” after York City’s 1-1 draw at Solihull Moors.

Lenell John-Lewis’ eighth goal in his last 10 matches quickly equalised for York after substitute Alex Reid’s opener shortly before the hour mark.

The point could well prove to be a valuable one for City given that Solihull were last season’s beaten Vanarama National League play-off finalists, have lost just one of their last 25 regular season matches and are expected to challenge again for promotion this term.

“I didn’t think we showed enough confidence on Saturday (in the 2-1 loss to Maidstone United) but that wasn’t the case tonight,” said manager Askey.

“That can only give them confidence going into Saturday’s game (against Eastleigh), without getting too carried away.

“There won’t be many teams who come here and get much. Hopefully we can keep learning and improving.”

While the result was a positive one for City, Askey felt his side could and perhaps should have left the West Midlands with all three points.

The boss added: “I thought that we finished the stronger, had more chances than them in the second half and I thought we grew in the belief as the game went on.

“I’m disappointed we haven’t been able to get the final goal to give us the three points.

“I thought we looked fitter and had one or two opportunities but it just wouldn’t break for us. All the pressure was coming from ourselves.

“I was pleased with everyone, I thought they all did well against a team that got into the play-off final last season. Hopefully that bears well for us.”
