BEN GODFREY suffered a broken leg in Everton's 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea.
The former York City defender was carried off on a stretcher with a fractured fibula just 10 minutes into his side's Premier League opener at Goodison Park.
"It's a small fracture of his fibula bone," reported Everton manager Frank Lampard.
"We are thinking two or three months (out), that is a really quick assessment."
In a brief post on social media, York-born Godfrey wrote: "It's part of the game. Thank you for all the messages, I appreciate it."
Without Godfrey, Everton went to concede a penalty in late first-half added time, scored by Jorginho.
Next up for the Toffees is a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon (12.30pm).
