YORK City have confirmed the signing of Dan Pybus from Dunfermline Athletic, who becomes their 16th arrival this summer.

Pybus featured for York as a trialist in their 1-0 loss to Notts County, their final game of pre-season, on Saturday at the LNER Community Stadium.

The 24-year-old arrives at City after a one-season stint at Dunfermline, where he won the club’s manager’s player of the season award.

He began his career at Bradford City, after coming through the youth academies of Sunderland and Derby County.

Pybus had a loan spell at Bradford (Park Avenue) before moving to Blyth Spartans.

He then spent time in Norway with FK Tonsberg, going on to join Queen of the South in Scotland where he stayed for two seasons, before moving to Athletic.

The new signing bolsters manager John Askey's options in midfield, as Pybus joins Gus Mafuta, Scott Burgess, Paddy McLaughlin, Mitch Hancox, Olly Dyson and AJ Greaves.

“I’m delighted to be here and I’m excited to get started as soon as possible,” enthused Pybus.

“My dad is from Yorkshire, so he has bigged this place up a lot. My end goal has always been to come back and play in England.

“Scotland was a good opportunity and I got plenty of games up there but when this opportunity came up, I just couldn’t say no.

“Everyone knows how big this club is and when (Askey) got in touch it was a definite yes straight away. He didn’t need to sell it.

“I like winning the ball back and keeping the ball. I’d say I’m an energetic midfielder and hardworking as well as good on the ball.”

Pybus joins new signings Scott Boden, Alex Hurst, Ryan Fallowfield, Adam Crookes, Burgess, Alex Whittle, Mafuta, Fraser Kerr, Ethan Ross, Luke James and Manny Duku at York.

City have also re-signed last season’s loanees Greaves, Lenell John-Lewis, Hancox and Sam Sanders ahead of what will be their first Vanarama National League campaign in five years.

York begin their term in the fifth-tier on Saturday against Woking at the LNER (3pm).
