YORK CC squandered their chance to move level at the top of the Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North premier division after losing by eight runs at Sessay.

The hosts set a commanding target of 269 for victory after posting a score of 268-9 from their 50 overs.

Sessay's innings was built behind a stunning 211 second-wicket partnership centuries from Mark Wilkie (106) and Mark Jackson (103 from 104 deliveries).

Wilkie and Jackson's wickets fell to Charlie Elliot (3-54) and Dave Brent (3-46) respectively.

York's top order contributed solid runs in the form of William Wade (45), Finlay Bean (35) and Luke Kilby (41), yet only Ryan McKendry (80) was able to make a half-century.

Darcy O'Connor (26 from 23) took the contest deep but despite scoring nine off the final over, the visitors fell short at 260-9.

A second straight defeat leaves York a spot behind leaders Driffield Town, who have a game in hand over the Clifton Park club.

Third-placed Sheriff Hutton Bridge are just four points behind York after thrashing Acomb by 155 runs.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge posted a commanding total of 290-9, a premier division round-high score.

Bridge recovered from 7-2, having seen openers Mark Fisher (2) and Alex Lilley (1) depart, through Adam Fisher's 130 from just 109 balls.

Ashley Watson also contributed 67, with Fisher and Watson's 124 stand the largest of the match.

Chris Aplin (4-49) and James Tindall (3-81) took the bulk of the wickets for Acomb.

In reply, Acomb fell well short of challenging Bridge's imposing score, with opener Edward Wade (59) the only batter to make more than 25.

Watson stood out with the ball (3-33) as the visitors were all out for 135 after 42.5 overs.

As a result, Acomb are at the foot of the table, two points adrift of second-from-bottom Beverley Town, who lost by 30 runs at Castleford.

David Wainwright's 80 and Liam Hyde's 45 led Castleford to 217-8, with Matthew Mudd (4-22) the most threatening bowler.

The weather meant Beverley were set a revised target of 155 from 38 overs.

Ben Hatfield (45) and Gregory Whyley (37) contributed for Town but did so too slowly to threaten an away win as both scored at strike rates less than 50 and the visitors finished on 124/4.

Meanwhile, Harrogate won the battle of the bottom half by 55 runs against Clifton Alliance.

Arjun Ramkumar (95) fell just short of a century while Yorkshire's Mathew Pillans hit an entertaining 46 from 20 as Harrogate made 264/9.

Clifton Alliance reached 186/9 after 42 overs, chasing a revised 242, having seen wickets fall at regular intervals against the bowling of Ishan Abeysekara (3-57) and Jonathan Macgregor (3-38).
