JORDAN THOMPSON expressed his delight at York City Knights' 40-16 victory at Whitehaven after a month “away from our standards.”

York headed to Whitehaven on a three-match winning streak but had trailed at half time in all those matches, with the triumphs over London Broncos and Widnes Vikings each only secured by two-point margins.

The Knights found their groove against Haven though with the 30-0 lead they racked up by the interval their highest-scoring half all season.

“It was like jumping back on the horse for us,” reflected loose forward Thompson.

“We started the season (well) and we were building to get to where we really wanted to be and wanted to achieve.

“Over the last four or weeks we’ve definitely not been at the races.

“But we’ve been working on it and speaking about it. We’ve really been putting our defensive and attacking structures together and I think it just all fell into place here. That all comes from working on those things every week.

“I thought we really put that all back together and we looked really strong.”

The win at Whitehaven saw James Ford’s side safely negotiate the return of Levi Edwards and Brendan O’Hagan from injury, the latter of whom marked his comeback with a late try.

Thompson enthused: “Levi always has a good impact on that edge, he’s hard to handle.

“Brendan came on and showed his class when he came on for 15, 20 minutes to get a few minutes back under his belt after a few weeks out injured. He showed what he’s all about.”
