YORK City first-team coach Kingsley James has signed a new deal with the club to remain for the 2022/23 season.

James arrived at York in November shortly after John Askey’s appointment as interim manager.

The Askey-James duo led City to promotion through the Vanarama National League North play-offs last month, ending the club’s five-year stay in regional football.

The coach will now remain with the Minstermen for the new campaign, York’s first season back in the top-flight of non-league football since the 2016/17 term.

At the age of just 30, James is one of the youngest coaches in the division, although he already boasts previous experience behind the scenes at Sheffield United, Port Vale and Hereford.

The former England ‘C’ international has also gained plenty of non-league knowledge through playing spells at Hereford United, Chester, FC Halifax Town and Macclesfield Town, playing under Askey at the latter.
