FIVE York City academy players are set to sign professional deals with the club next week.

Manager John Askey revealed on Monday that York are in line to confirm 17 members of next season's squad from next Friday (July 1) and that he hopes to have a group of 22 in place by the time the Vanarama National League season kicks off on August 6.

A number of those are set to be youngsters as City stated that "five players (who) have progressed through the academy this season are due to sign their first professional contracts on July 1."

The youth team return to training on July 11 ahead of their National League Under-19s Alliance north division season, which begins in September.

Before then, Tim Ryan's side will take part in seven pre-season friendlies, which are as follows:

Saturday, July 16: Everton U18s (H)

Friday, July 22: Northallerton Town (A)

Saturday, July 30: Rotherham United U18s (A)

Tuesday, August 9: Tadcaster Albion (A)

Saturday, August 13: Mansfield Town U18s (A)

Wednesday, August 17: York College (H)

Tuesday, August 23: Harrogate Town U18s (H)

All the home matches will take place behind closed doors and kick-off times for the friendlies have not been announced.
